One can only stand in awe and absorb the breath-taking views of the\nwild Atlantic Ocean from the 100m (330 feet) sheer drop of the fort, and feel\nthe clarity of air in this dreamlike landscape. Whether in sun or cloud, this magical\nspace provides serenity and an awareness of a time gone by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This sacred site draws you into its inner sanctum towards the platform, where no doubt the tribes celebrated the turning of the Celtic Year with song, dance and ceremonies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon exploring further, the Chevaux de Frise (defense system) beyond the third and outer wall of the fort, is an extraordinary tribute to the inhabitants in terms of how they protected their home, animals and land. No man or horse, yesterday or today, will defeat it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u00fan Aonghasa (Irish for Dun Aengus) is a wonder of the world. A place like no other. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stand and listen: perhaps the ancient times will call to you. Perhaps the song in the wind will be yours. <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Irene Graham provides week-long Writing Retreats and Workshops<\/a> in fiction and memoir writing on Inis M\u00f3r Island throughout the year. It has been her writing home for the past 15 years. As well as developing writing projects, participants explore the island, with islanders… places the casual tourist never gets to experience. You won’t want to leave. And if you do leave, you will return!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
